Sports Nigeria to compete at the World Weightlifting Championship with 14 lifters

Fourteen Weightlifters have been selected by the Nigerian Weightlifting Federation(NWF) to represent the country at the World Championship taking place in Kazakhstan.

The World Weightlifting Championship is a two-week event that will come up between November 4-16 in Almaty.

Eight male lifters will be representing Nigeria in the Male category, while six lifters would compete in the Female category.

Board member of Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) George Aluo, lamented the inability of the federation to have invited the lifters early to camp.

“Its unfortunate we are not in camp yet less than three weeks to the world championship. In spite of this setback, our lifters are ever-ready to do the country proud," Aluo was quoted as saying on Vanguard Sports.

"They did it in Glasgow at the 2014 Commonwealth games and they are battle-ready for Kazakhstan. This is one competition where we cant afford to fail because if we do, then we wont be able to be part of the weightlifting event of Rio 2016 Olympics.
