Nigeria Vows to Protect “African Davos” Scheduled to Hold in May in its Bomb-hit Capital

Reuters reports that the Nigerian government has vowed on Tuesday to secure the World Economic Forum on Africa in Abuja next month with more than 6,000 policemen and soldiers. This is the result of the bomb attack on the capital a day ago.

African heads of state and business leaders are due to attend the May 7-9 WEF event, which is patterned after the Davos, Switzerland one – where the Nigerian government will showcase its newly acquired status as the largest economy in the African continent.

Since the gruesome bombing on Monday which left 71 people dead and which is currently the deadliest attack on Abuja, there are those who have begun to doubt the government’s ability to protect the nation’s capital from a Boko Haram attack in the future.

Pressure is mounting on President Goodluck Jonathan to keep the five-year insurrection in check ahead of the 2015 elections.

This insurgency is really spoiling a lot of things for Nigeria.

Life would've been better and the economy would be booming if not for BQHM.

*Sigh*

There's hope.
