Sports Nigeria vs Sudan: Super Eagles needs to win today or it is all over for them

Today's game is definitely a must win match for the Super Eagles of Nigeria if they are to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the 2015 African Cup of Nations tournament.

Fans are still hurting from last weekend's 1-0 defeat to Sudan, and they are patiently to throw in the daggers should it go wrong today in the return fixture.

The outrage that greeted the loss was and is still mammoth, because many didn't expect the Super Eagles to lose to Sudan

The game this evening is one that the Super Eagles cannot afford not to get all maximum points as anything other than a win all but seals the fate of a 'no-qualification' for Nigeria.

Already people have started working out permutations and Nigerians are no strangers to such calculations. In fact, hardly any qualifiers that Nigeria does not go through such rigours.

But this present predicament should never have gotten to this, just a paltry one point from three matches is the height of disappointment.

Factor in that Nigeria is the defending champion of the Nations Cup and you would understand what humiliation could be.

Already Sudan's coach is boasting that he is coming to Nigeria to replicate what they did in the first leg.

Should it be a source of worry? truth is that if the Super Eagles fail to take any of their chances ,they could be singing the same song they sung last week in Khartoum.

At most the Sudanese might be hoping to lock up shop and hang in for a frustrating draw.

The Sudanese are currently third in the group with three points and a point away at this stage will not be a bad result for them.

But this is not what the Super Eagles needs, rather they require all three points on offer to move up against Sudan.

With South Africa and Congo playing on the same day, whatever the outcome of their own match, the Nigerians need to win their own game in order not to lose further grounds on first and second positions.

The Super Eagles will be hoping to make home advantage count, but in the last home match,Nigeria lost to Congo in Calabar, and this could a ghost that might haunt the team.

And the fact that the game will be played at the Abuja Stadium that is usually not always full,is a major concern.

Nigeria's qualification hopes could come down to the trip to Brazzaville next month, but they need to first beat Sudan in order for that trip to Congo not to be a mere formality.
