Several Nigerian soldiers at their security posts in Nembe creek, Bayelsa State have been gunned down by militants who dressed up as priests, Reuters reports.

Reports say the militants ambushed the officers, disguising as part of a group returning from a burial ceremony. It's believed that about three soldiers died from the attack.

The officers are members of the team for Operation Delta Safe (ODS) posted to the Nembe waterway checkpoint.

The Nigerian military have mounted a manhunt for the perpetrators.
