According to the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of National Identity Management Commission[NIMC], Chris Onyemenam, online shopping in Nigeria rose to an estimated N150billion in 2014, Daily Independent reports.

He attributed this significant rise in online shopping to broadband penetration in the country, which has become an enabler for socio-economic growth of the economy.

Speaking on Wednesday at the ICT Centenary Conference and Awards in Abuja, Onyemenam said online shopping was initially projected to grow to N62billion in 2011, adding that with the penetration of broadband across the country, that it has risen to N150billion this year.

He also assured that his Commission saddled with the responsibility of delivering National Identity Card Project to Nigerians would definitely succeed in this national assignment.

The Executive Vice Chairman of Nigerian Communications Commission[NCC], Eugene Juwah, also noted with satisfaction that the deployment of telecommunications infrastructure in Nigeria has assisted tremendously in creating business opportunities and democratisation of wealth in various communities in the country.
