Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Wali, will on April 28 in New York preside over a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council on Security Sector Reform (SSR).

The Spokesman of the ministry, Mr Ogbole Ode, told newsmen in Abuja on Sunday that the open debate on SSR was convened under Nigeria’s month-long presidency of the council.

He said members of the 15-member Security Council had been invited to participate at the ministerial level, while the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, and other top officials of the UN system were invited to provide briefings.

The high-level meeting in New York is Wali’s first official assignment at the UN headquarters since he was appointed foreign minister on March 5, 2014. He had served as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN from 2004 to 2007.
