Sports NIPOGA: Organisers aiming to surpass Ede's achievement

Hosts of the 18th Nigeria Polytechnic game (NIPOGA) Federal Polytechnic Bida,have set their sights on staging a memorable games that would surpass the previous editions.

Chairman of the local organizing committee mallam Usman Buhari while addressing newsmen in Bida,said that they aim to surpass the previous edition of the NIPOGA held in Ede.

“We are determined to surpass what Ede did in all ramifications. We are providing a well equipped media center to enable journalist to file their reports.

"Our facilities will have flood light so as to have games played in the evening which has never been done in the history of NIPOGA. Right now work is going on the two basketball court. We are building a mainbowl which will include tartan track, indoor sport hall, tennis court and of course we are upgrading our existing facilities.

However,he expressed concerns that the completions of the project are being delayed due to lack of funds.

“Some of the project would have been completed but due to lack of funds. We need 1.3 billion naira to host NIPOGA with a large chunk of the money to be expended on facilities."

Buhari called on corporate bodies to rally round the school by constructing some of these facilities: “they should take up one of these project build it and brand it. We don’t need their money but the facilities. We are appealing to corporate Nigeria to come down and assist us in providing the facilities that we need to host this game.

About 3000 athletes are expected to participate in 15 different sports at the games.

Lagos state polytechnic Ikorodu(LASPOTECH) will be looking towards retaining the title that they are the defending champions.
