Mr Mike Omeri, the Director-General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), has called on the citizens to disregard those calling for war, saying only Nigerians could ensure that peace and justice reigned.
He made this call in a statement on Friday as the country prepares to commemorate the 2013 International Peace Day on Sept. 21.

Omeri described people who fan the embers of violence and blood-letting in the country as enemies of the nation.

He said that the security agencies were resolved than ever to ensure that such people were apprehended and brought to justice.

As the world marks this year’s International Peace Day, Nigerians must contribute their own quota to entrenching world peace.

This can be done, by denouncing all those who seek to divide us along ethnic, religious, political and other lines.

Such people do not mean well for this nation and we must shame them and their evil predictions of bloodshed by reporting suspicious persons and activities immediately they are spotted,’’ he said.

According to Omeri, only Nigerians can ensure "a nation where peace and justice reign", as stipulated in the second stanza of the country’s National Anthem.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the International Peace Day, which is commemorated annually on the Sept. 21 has as its theme: “Education for Peace”.

Omeri was given an opportunity to speak, so he felt he must say something somewhat sensible.

"...by reporting suspicious persons and activities immediately they are spotted.
