Sports Novak Djokovic through to next round of the Paris Masters

World number one Novak Djokovic has progressed to the next round of the Paris Masters after defeating Philipp Kohlschreiber.

The Serb did not have any difficulty in dispatching his German counterpart whom he defeated in straight sets 6-3 6-4 .

With Roger Federer breathing down on him for the world number spot, Djokovic needs to be consistent with his wins in order to steer clear in more points won.

The 27-year was back on the court for the first time after his wife put to the bed their first child.

"I'm trying to take as much positive energy as I can from what's happened in the past few weeks," Djokovic said.

"I'm very proud to be a father and I'm very proud of my wife for handling the birth in a great way.

"She's back home recovering now, with our little boy. This was my first match as a father and it can only inspire me to play my best tennis."
