The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Nigeria’s public television, has refused to report on the historic crisis, which led to a major split at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Special Convention in Abuja.

Last night NTA reported President Jonathan’s address and of Vice President Namadi Sambo. It also carried two slide stories of Senate President David Mark and that of Benue State governor, Mr. Gabriel Suswan, after which the station continued with its live broadcast of the votes cast in Eagles Square, venue of the convention. Today the NTA has reported the election result of the President Goodluck Jonathan led faction of the PDP, again refusing to make any report on the New PDP.

Sahara reporters claim an unknown source said the editorial staff, has been mandated to report only pro-Jonathan stories and turn down any material offensive to him. NTA is under the supervision of Mr. Labaran Maku, Nigeria’s Minister of Information, as well as a board appointed by the President.

So the National Television Authority is under the authority of the powers that be. Not surprising at all. However, try as they may, this is the era of freedom of information, and with the presence of numerous media outlets, it's only a question of impedance, rather that total blockage of information.

This is getting quite interesting, as a wise woman (@Bolanle Akanji) once said...
