Dr. Nasir Fagge, president of ASUU has blamed the government and NUC for the problems in the educational sector. He particularly blamed the NUC for misusing universities' Stabilisation Fund.

In an interview, he said the accreditation exercise conducted by NUC was a charade. According to him, if things were as normal as NUC claims, then there wouldn't be any problem but both students and teachers know that there are problems.

He stated that the additional funds which ASUU got from the FG in 1992 was cornered and misused by the NUC. This fund has not been made available to the universities. According to him, the NUC is using the money for conferences, buying a house for the NOUN which was later not used. All these, he said were not the original purpose meant for the fund.

He mentioned that the educational system is appalling and graduates are not as good as they ought to be. This has led to people studying abroad leading to brain drain in the country.

On the issue of the current strike, he said that though he is an optimistic person, the government should do what is right and honour the agreement they had/have together.
