Sports NUGA 2014: UNIPORT clinch 120 medals; emerge overall winners

University of Port Harcourt bagged 120 medals at the just concluded 24th edition of the National University Games (NUGA) staged at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife.

In the official final medals table,UNIPORT claimed 63 gold, 41 silver and 16 bronze medals wining the competition back to back. University of Lagos who finished second won 30 medals: 13 gold, 10 silver and seven bronze medals.

This is the fifth time that UNIPORT will be winning the NUGA competition that held its inaugural edition in 1966.
Obafemi Awolowo University, who are the host of the 24 edition of the University games came third with 36 medals: 12 gold medals, nine silver medals and 15 bronze medals.

In the fourth overall position was Ahmadu Bello University,Zaria with 30 medals: nine gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze medals.

Bayero University, Kano finished in fifth position with seven gold medals, one silver and three bronze medals, while University of Benin got six gold, four silver and five bronze medals to take the sixth position.

Ladoke Akintola University came seventh with six gold, four silver and five bronze medals, while University of Ilorin won four gold medals, three silver medals and 15 bronze medals and occupied the eighth position.

University of Maiduguri and University of Nigeria Nsukka finished ninth and tenth respectively with the former winning three gold, five silver and nine bronze medals, while the latter had a total of 19 medals - two gold, six silver and 11 bronze medals to make the 10th position.

University of Uyo were the least placed team in 38th position as they could only win bronze medal.
