The Chairperson of the Adamawa Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, Dr Halima Nyako in Yola on Sunday has urged the state government to expedite the passage of the Anti-stigma and Discrimination Bill.

She said the call became necessary to protect the people living with HIV/AIDS against stigmatisation and discrimination.

She requested the state assembly to consider the passage of the bill so that persons living with HIV/AIDS could have respite and a sense of belonging in the larger community.

She also urged other agencies and stakeholders such as the TB and Leprosy Control Programme to partner with it to control co-infections.

In his remarks, Gov. Murtala Nyako, represented by the state’s Commissioner for Health, Mrs Lilian Stephen, lauded the agency for the successes recorded and assured it of the government’s sustained support.

He also lauded the contributions of the World Bank and NACA in the fight against the infection in the state.

HIV testing kits were presented to groups and associations involved in the HIV/AIDS interventions in the state.
