Coach of Sharks Football Club,Gbenga Ogunbote, has apologised to the fans following their ouster from this year’s Federations Cup.
Sharks on Wednesday were eliminated out of the competition in the second round, losing 5-4 on penalties,to defending champions Heartland, after both sides battled to a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
“On behalf of the team, I want to appeal for their understanding because I know losses like this can be very painful, especially when you have imagined your team in the next round,” Ogunbote told the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN)
“They should not lose faith in the team because of the Federation Cup loss to Heartland, as we need them more than ever to do well in the league,” he added.
“It would have been better if we had lost during regulation time because there wouldn’t have been too much pressure on the team, having done so well. We had the chance of going ahead, even in the shootout. That was when our goalkeeper, Ejiogu, brought us back into the game and then we lost it again,’’ Ogunbote said.
