The Kaduna State House of Assembly on Tuesday adopted the report of its Committee on Judiciary on the prohibition of commercial motorcycles operating in Kaduna town.
Presenting the report, the Chairman of the committee, Mr Kantiok Ishaku said it was focused on the proposal to ban the operation of commercial motorcyclists in Kaduna, Zaria and Kafanchan due to security reasons.
Ishaku said that the committee observed that certain provisions of the bill needed to be amended in order to take care of ambiguities that may arise when the law eventually comes into effect.
He said that the committee, while endorsing the ban, amended some sections and suggested that no person shall be arrested for violating the provision of the law until the expiration of at least 14 days from the date of its commencement.
He said that the committee had also proposed that other major towns be included in the ban in view of current security challenges in the state.
The towns are Ungwan-Bawa, Saminaka, Birnin Gwari, Dogon Dawa, Giwa, Yakawada, Kuyello and Farin Ruwa.
