The Virgins, a non-governmental organisation has declared its focus to be the battle to preserve virgins until their wedding night. Adunni Adediran, the organisation’s founder, said also that she believed in the cause and objective of her organisation so much as to sell her house and empty her bank account to help girls who wanted to stay virgins till their wedding night.
The organisation is struggling to survive due to lack of support, especially from government entities, even in the light of the girl-child marriage issue.
The 68 year old mother said, “It is worrisome that a large number of people and organisations, including the government, do not show clear support for the virgins. The idea can eradicate many vices in the country.
The Chairman of the organisation, Dr. Naheem-Deen Ekemode, advised girls not to “open their laps” for any man until they get married. He also said in a statement, “We also give certificates to them on their wedding days. We urge the government to help to encourage virginity.”
