Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo on Monday inaugurated the Taxation Identification Number (TIN), and urged Nigerians to support the programme to ensure economic development in Nigeria.

Oshiomhole said that the project was designed to cover all Nigerians irrespective of their areas of residence.

He said the exercise would help to eliminate multiple taxations, adding that it would be in the interest of the citizens as well as build a national databank.

The governor said that in Nigeria, tax was compulsory, and urged citizens of Edo to key into the exercise.

He also expressed the hope that the effort would remove bottle neck and lead to greater efficiency in taxation.

The governor said that the exercise would bring a clearer picture of tax payers as well as aid development.

Earlier, Chief Oseni Elamai, the Chairman of Edo Inland Revenue Service, said the exercise was an electronic tax payer registration system that integrated all tax information in a single record.
