Nigeria's vice president, Professor Osinbajo, has express concerns over the amount spent by Nigerians on healthcare tourism. This has come just days after President Buhari returned from his extended stay (103 days) receiving treatment in the UK.

So here are the points made during a two-day national health dialogue organised by the Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism:
  • We want to stop that trend because it is draining our reserves
  • Healthcare for Nigerians is important to the Buhari administration.
  • Buhari administration was interested in health issues, but poverty was also a major issue to look at
  • State government should join in so as to ensure universal health coverage in the country.
The statement will come as a shock to many Nigerians considering president Buhari has just returned from a 103-day medical vacation to the UK. He also spent a few weeks in the UK receiving treatment earlier in the year.
