The Osun state government has condemned the attack on Mrs. Idiat Babalola at the burial ceremony of Senator Isiaka Adeleke on Tuesday.

According to reports, Adeleke who died on Sunday was nursing a governorship ambition. It's said that Ms. Babalola has been picked as a running mate to whomever emerges the anointed candidate of the All Progressives Congress.

The protesters major grouse against her, it was gathered, was that she was not supporting Mr. Adeleke’s ambition to return to the government house, despite being an indigene of Ede.

During his burial ceremony on Monday, Babalola was almost lynched by an angry mob who blamed her for his death. It took the intervention of Ogun state governor Ibikunle Amosun for her life to be saved.

Osun government spokesman Semiu Okanlawon blamed the attack on political opportunists.

“Some hoodlums looking for every available thing to hold on to only took advantage of the tension created by the death of Adeleke in the minds of his supporters,” Mr. Okanlawon said.

“What they should have done is to await the outcome of the autopsy, that would guide their actions.”

The result of an autopsy conducted by the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital is yet to be released.
