The Osun State House of Assembly on Monday confirmed the nominees for the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) for January 2014 local government polls.
The seven SIEC nominees who were confirmed are Chief Oladunjoye Oladitan (Chairman) and Mr Adeyemo Abiola, Mrs Abosede Omibekun, Mr Omoleke Dauda, Mr Oyeniran Sunday, Mr Ebenezer Awobiyi and Alhaji Kazeem Olatunji, all members.
In his remarks, Mr Ipoola Binuyo (APC, Ife North constituency) said that in line with Section (4) of the Osun State electoral laws, the nominees were qualified for confirmation as SIEC members.
Binuyo said the curriculum vitae of the nominees indicated that they are not card-carrying members of any political parties.
After the confirmation, Mr Najeem Salaam, speaker of the house addressed the newly confirmed SIEC officials saying, "I charged you to be above board and ensure that the there will be no rigging and manipulation during the election".
"We want election that will make the winners to be happy and the losers to accept defeat gallantly".
"I congratulate you to for being chosen to serve the state", he said. (NAN)
