Private jet owners and operators in Nigeria are now going to pay luxury tax ranging from $3,000 to $4,000 depending on the country of registration. The luxury tax will be paid after every flight made within the country.

This new directive was contained in a memo issued on the 28th of August titled Order charging certain fees on operations in general aviation’. The memo was signed by the NCAA (Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority)’s Director-General, Captain Fola Akinkuotu.

According to the memo, private jets registered in Nigeria will pay the sum of $3,000 (N280,000) for every departure, while those registered in a foreign country would pay $4,000 (N640,000).

Meanwhile, operators of private jets have started complaining that the fees are illegal and because of that, they will not pay them.

That they have the money for luxury toys does not mean they have to be charged exorbitant fees - yes, exorbitant!!

Sometimes I feel the NCAA over does things in trying to regulate the aviation sector

Only a few extra Naira in the collection box on worship day. Either at church, local government, state government, federal government, executive board rooms...

You will end up paying!
