Political positions in Nigeria are rarely occupied by young people. Perhaps not yet – would we have a similar case of 39-year old Emmanuel Macron, who recently got elected as the new president of France, the youngest person to lead the country. One of the many things that colour Nigeria's political landscape is having the old folks at the helms of affairs, and quite unfortunately, the old ones are not ready to leave the stage yet.

There are already schemes ahead of the 2019 general elections in Nigeria across the states, with various politicians making their intent known. The focus for this article is on Oyo state – whose most gubernatorial candidates are/or currently 60 years and would be more than before the election year. Below is the list of them, as compiled by InsideOyo.

2) Olufemi Lanlehin: ‎Trained at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka as a lawyer, he was a member of the Lagos State House of Representatives before becoming a senator in Oyo State. He will be 65 in May 2017 and 67 in 2019. He hails from Inalende in Ibadan North West local government.

5) ‎‎Azeez Adeduntan: Adeduntan was born in Oja-Oba area of Ibadan South East local government 63 years ago. A trained medical doctor, he returned from the United States to man the Oyo State Ministry of Health as commissioner under the incumbent Governor Abiola Ajimobi. He hails from the same compound with late chief of Ibadan politics, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu. He would be 65 in 2019.

6) Rashidi Ladoja: The Ibadan High Chief and former governor was educated in Belgium as an engineer. His tenure as governor, between 2003 and 2007, was turbulent that many believe that if he had had a crisis-free administration, he would have recorded many laudable achievement. ‎The 72-year old former senator has sought a return to Agodi Government House twice, in 2011 and 2015, without success. Rumours have it that Ladoja, who would be 74 in 2019, has his eyes on the seat.
