The PDP in Kwara on Tuesday described the move by the state government to float a N23 billion bond as a ploy to divert the state’s money.

The Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Chief Rex Olawoye, told newsmen that the bond would create a huge debt burden for an incoming government.

“The bond is a game plan on the part of the All Progressives Congress to use tax payers’ money to prosecute the elections.

“PDP is against anybody taking any loan under any disguise to send the state into slavery for the second time,’’ Olawoye said.

He appealed to the Nigeria Stock Exchange to reject the bond move, alleging that the Abdulfatai Ahmed-led administration would not redeem it before the end of its tenure.

Olawoye challenged the government to subject the bond to a town hall meeting where all stakeholders would express their views.

He called on members of the State House of Assembly to be true representatives of the people by rejecting the bond move.

“They should know that they are the representatives of the people; they are not the people, hence the need for the town hall meeting,’’ Olawoye said.

But Dr Muideen Akorede, a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, said the state government would use the bond for development purposes.

Akorede, who dismissed Olawoye’s claims, said the funds would be used for construction of more roads, renovation of the stadium complex as well as execution of agricultural programmes.

He urged members of the opposition not to play politics with the welfare of the people.
