Pregnant women, nursing mothers and Post graduate students have been barred from participating in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.

According to THIS DAY, NYSC DG, Brig-Gen. Johnson Olawumi, said the exemption of people in these categories from service was because they would not be able to undergo the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC, which is mobilisation, orientation, primary assignment and winding-up passing out parade.

Olawumi said it didn't make sense that pregnant women and nursing mothers would be absent from these stages of the national service, only to resurface for posting to their various places of primary assignments.

This is good news. The former policy of Pregnant and Nursing women going to camp that was forced upon NYSC by some female activist was ridiculous coz such categories could not partake in any aspect of the camp. They should be made to wait till they are fit for such a rigorous environment.

There've been many cases of pregnant woman having miscarriages as a result of the experience they had in camp. This is a good call and I'm in support of it.
