The Presidency has reacted to those asking why President Muhammadu Buhari did not order the prosecution of the sacked Secretary General of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and the NIA DG, Ayodele Oke.

In a response by the Presidency Office of Digital Engagement (PODE) on Twitter, it stated that it is not the duty of Mr. President to prosecute Babachir Lawal and other.

The statement further explained that the Economic and Financila Crimes Commission, EFCC, has the mandate, the authority and independence to look into the case and not President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Questions arising re sacked SGF. '

“Presidency not a prosecuting agency. @officialEFCC has the mandate to prosecute.

“EFCC enjoys authority & independence to prosecute, & to use discretion appropriately at all times. President does not direct/influence them”.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday announced the sacked Babachir Lawal, and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayo Oke, who were suspended in April.

Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, who announced the sack in a statement, said Boss Mustapha, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain from Adamawa, where Lawal hails from, has been appointed as the new SGF.
