Sports Real Madrid biggest spenders in Europe

A survey has revealed that Spanish giants Real Madrid are football's biggest spenders in the last seven years.

The CIES football observatory, a research group carried out a fact finding task, looking into the spending on transfer fees over the last seven summer transfer windows.

Real Madrid came out tops on the list across Europe's top five leagues sampled, notching up a staggering 750m euros (£590m) spent solely on transfer fees.

Not surprising, considering that they had twice broken the transfer records within the period observed.

First was on Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009,coughing out £80million to Manchester United, and in 2013 when a King's ransom of £86million was paid to Tottenham Hotspur.

Close following Real Madrid in second position is Manchester City on £733m euros (£577m) with Barcelona third on 611m euros (£480m).

While Liverpool (fourth on £366m), Chelsea (fifth on £339m) and Manchester United (sixth on £334m) follow in that order.
