Teams in Europe and across the globe utilised the FIFA window to play international friendlies and prepare for the next month’s World Cup qualifiers across all zones.
There were high scorelines in some of the games, with players pushing for a place in their respective national teams, and eager to impress.
Also some teams held their own against perceived bigger teams, for example Germany had to come from two goals down to be able to draw 3-3 at home to visiting Paraguay.
England did put up an impressive performance against neighbours Scotland, also coming from behind to claim a 3-2 victory at Wembley.
Substitute Rickie Lambert, who was making his international debut got the winning goal for the Three Lions.
Despite the comeback of Galatasaray forward,Didier Drogba to the national team, since making his last appearance for Ivory Coast at the Nations Cup; the Elephants were mauled 4-1 by Mexico.
Cristiano Ronaldo proved what a valuable asset he is to Portugal, netting the equaliser that earned his side a 1-1 draw with Netherlands.
But the surprise result of the evening belongs to Switzerland who defeated Brazil 1-0,courtesy of a Dani Alves’ own goal.
