The Rivers State Government has spoken against the current clampdown experienced by politicians deemed sympathetic to Amaechi’s cause, calling it a witch-hunt.

Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, Commissioner for Information, made this alarming observation in Abuja yesterday said some of the people arrested include the chairman of the PDP in Omuma local government area, Mr. Charles Amaefule and the Assistant State Secretary of the Ake side of the PDP in Rivers State, Mr. Leo Anyanwu.

What was even more worrisome, according to Semenitari, was the recent arrest and detention of the politicians at Kuje Prison in Abuja. Apparently, the politicians are also loyal to the governor.

She described the current trend as the return of the military era, the “dark days” and asked that the affected politicians be released immediately.

Meanwhile, the arrested politicians may be arraigned at a court in Abuja today on charges of Sedition.
