Member of a notorious armed robbery gang, identified as Akeem Folorunsho, who has been reportedly terrorizing residents of Igando area of Lagos State was,Sunday, apprehended by residents while attempting to rape one of his female victims during an operation.
The suspect and some members of his gang, according to Vangaurd, invaded the area and gained access into number 6, Ismail Abass Street at about 5a.m. yesterday.
Wielding cutlasses, Folorunso and his gang had ordered a lady in the room to lie down in a bid to rape her.
It was gathered that the lady’s father put up an act of bravery and engaged the armed men in a fight, while other neighbours contacted the policemen in the process.
Giving a brief account of the incident, one of the neighbours who gave his name only as Chima, said, “When the alarm was raised from the apartment that was being attacked, some people summoned courage and went into the apartment, where the father of the house (names withheld) was engaged in a fight with the robbers.
“One of the robbers was apprehended, while the other fled on noticing that residents were aware of their presence.”
The angry residents were on the verge of lynching the apprehended suspect before the timely intervention of policemen.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Dolapo Badmus, while confirming the incident, noted that, “It took reinforcement for police to rescue the robbery suspect, one Akeem Folorunso.”
