Sports Round-up: Mikel scores first Champions League goal, Man City through to the knockout stage

Nigeria's John Obi Mikel has scored his first Champions League goal after helping Chelsea to a 3-1 victory over Sporting Lisbon at Stamford Bridge.

The Super Eagles midfielder latched on to a free-kick, following up header from his teammate, Zouma to guide in the ball for his side's third goal of the night, after Cesc Fabregas and Andre Schurrle had put the Blues in front in the first half.

Mikel was making his 55th appearance in the competition and registered it with a goal, netting his fifth goal in 325 appearances since he joined Chelsea.

Chelsea consolidated on their top spot in the group, and effectively bounced back from last weekend's defeat to Newcastle, where some people even singled out Mikel for blame.

City finished second behind Bayern Munich who topped their group, and the Germans confirmed their superiority with a 3-0 defeat of Ahmed Musa's CSKA Moscow.

Meanwhile, Barcelona had to come from behind to defeat Paris Saint Germain 3-1 at the Nou Camp.
