The electoral commission in Rwanda has announced that President Paul Kagame has won a third term in office with a landslide. He has been in power since 1994.

The electoral commission said Kagame won 98% of the results collated so far.

His supporters, who say he has brought stability and development to the country after the devastating genocide in 1994, began celebrations even before the announcement.

The country's constitution was amended in 2015, which allows Kagame to rule till 2034.

Mr Kagame, who has been in power for 17 years, was challenged by Frank Habineza and Philippe Mpayimana.

This kind of leader need to be killed because he doesn't mean well for people of Rwanda. Rwanda presidential position is not his father's property.

He is actually doing well for the people of Rwanda and they love him. His dictatorial side is up for debate though.

It's good to have you back bro. It's been long :)

Is Kagame's 'dictatorial' rule (with great economic transformation in Rwanda) not better than Buhari's 'democratic' reign? Discuss (in not more than 3 paragraphs) :)

We have to take a long term view. Regardless of @Samguine 's wishes, Buhari will be out in 2019. That is the end of the matter. If Kagame carries on like this, we will have the perpetual African messiah syndrome. You can get a taste of it in Nigeria now, as all efforts are being made to mute the public over Buhari's issue. The truth of the matter is that he should have resigned a long time ago and handed over full powers to the Acting president.
