World Rwanda: Female Presidential Candidate 'Diane Rwigara' Disqualified

Diane Shima Rwigara, Rwanda’s only female presidential candidate has been disqualified from next month’s election.



ABC News reports that she was excluded from the race for submitting signatures of some people who have been long dead. According to electoral laws, independent presidential candidates are required to present 600 signatures, with at least 12 from each of Rwanda’s 30 districts.

Two other candidates - Gilbert Mwenedata and Fred Sekikubo Barafinda, were also disqualified over the same issue.
