World Saudi Women Vote for the First Time

Women in Saudi Arabia today voted for the first time in municipal elections.

BBC reports that a total of 978 women have registered as candidates for the elections, alongside 5,938 men. Female candidates have had to speak behind a partition during campaign appearances or be represented by a man.

About 130,000 women registered to vote. The figures for men is placed at 1.35million.
