Politics Senate confirms Duru-Iheoma as NPC Chairman

The Senate on Thursday confirmed the appointment of Chief Eze Duru-Iheoma, as Chairman of the National Population Commission after consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on National Identity and National Population.

Two other nominees, Mr Aliyu Kwali (FCT) and Alhaji Bala Banye (Katsina) were also confirmed as members of the commission.

The Vice Chairman of the committee, Sen. Abdulmumini Hassan (PDP-Jigawa), who presented the report, said that the committee found all three nominees competent.

One of the nominees, Mrs Adebola Adetunmbi (Ekiti) did not appear before the committee for screening.

The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, described the new NPC chairman as a man of good character and a team player who was highly knowledgeable.

Sen. Ahmed Lawan (APC-Yobe) advised the new board members to ensure that they served the interest of all Nigerians while in the commission.

The Senate also confirmed the appointment of Mr Awuwa Adegbenro, as the representative of Ondo on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission.
