Ngerian Senate has started the screening of Justice Walter Onnoghen as substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) after acting in same capacity for over three months.

Onnoghen has been acting since November following the retirement of Justice Mahmud Mohammed.

The National Judicial Council (NJC) recommended Onnoghen for the CJN seat in November.

- DSP, Ike Ekweremadu says the judiciary is last hope of the common man, and asked how a common man will be guaranteed justice, henceforth.

- "As Legislators we make laws, the Judicial arm must build a closer working relationship with the National Assembly" - Sen. Ahmed Lawan

Sen. Lawan says "we need to understand how u think, you need to know how we operate" & asked how he intends to fasttrack corruption charges

"We all agree there is corruption in the Judiciary" - Ag CJN, Walter Onnoghen.

Onnoghen says in accordance with rules and regulations, "we are working to stem this & encourage transparency in our dealings"

Senator David Umaru asks " How can you ensure the independence of the Judiciary in dispensing justice if you're confirmed as the CJN"

Senator Umaru also cites section 2, 31 of the constitution&asked for reason behind deviation from departure of elevating justices to the NBA

Senator Akpabio asks "how will you reinvigorate the confidence of the public in the judiciary" talks about handwriting Judgement delivered.

Senator Akpabio notes that the public have more confidence in the supreme court judgement ahead of the lower courts & says it shouldn't be.

Response: Onnoghen says the Judiciary is not the last hope of the common man, but the last hope of every man.

"You don't need to see a judge before you get justice, independence will be reenforced, i wont compromise on that" - ACJN Onnoghen.

Sen. Na'Allah asked if the ACJN can possess capacity to exhibit rear positions on issues relating to reckless decisions from the Executive.
