Senator Shehu Sani on Monday visited the Aba Prisons and promised to push for reforms.
According to PUNCH, speaking during the one day visit, Senator Sani decried how the prison hasn't changed since his incarceration between 1995 and 1998.
He said, “It is touching and emotional; for over 17 years after my release from the prison, I have come back here to see that the prison has not really changed; the prison is in dire need of help and I came here to listen to them with the intention of seeing how I can assist them.
“The deputy controller of prison here have enumerated the problems facing the prison and among them, there are two challenges that I will take up immediately; one is that I will renovate the prison school and provide equipment for the prison workshop and again I will provide legal assistance to help the inmates who are awaiting trials and for those of them who are convicted, I will seek for ways of getting amnesty for some of them, this is what I can do for now.”
