The Nigeria senate and the presidency could be headed towards a separate war following the assumption of duty of a political appointee without being confirmed by the Red Chamber.

Senator Dino Melaye brought the issue up during plenary on Wednesday.

“Sad to note that a new Director-General of National Lottery Commission has been appointed, assumed office and signing documents. This country is not a banana republic and the executive cannot choose which law to obey.”

Reacting, Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, called for a thorough investigation of the matter. He said it was “a very weighty one which borders on the constitution and the rule of law.”

According to him, if Melaye’s claims are confirmed to be authentic, the director-general should stop the “nonsense and immediately vacate the seat.”

Imagine that high level of negligence. APC led government is very autocratic and it high time they be taught lessons with the due application of the constitutional provisions.
