Shekau's Killing - End of Boko Haram Terrorists?

Temitope Akinola
Except if the Defence Headquarters would be doubted, the Nigerian Boko Haram leader, Mohammed Bashir who has always claimed 'Abubakar Shekau' had been killed by Nigerian forces in the Konduga battle.

Since the death of Shekau, many of the insurgents have scattered around, some to Cameroun while others are still hiding in different areas in North-East Nigeria. Moreover, many of the Boko Haram insurgents are already surrendering themselves to the Nigeria military.

From the foregoing, one can assume that the central coordination of Boko Haram has been disorganized. This is a ground breaking victory for the Nigerian Army who have been overpowered by the Boko Haram insurgents in previous weeks. With this new development, can we say that there is an end in view to Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria?

If this expert is to be believed, the answer is no. Mr. Mike Ejiofor, in fact, says that "Shekau isn't dead", in a way to mean that another Shekau will rise up to take his place at the helm of Boko Haram affairs.

He has said, however, that killing the man known as 'Shekau' is a victory for Nigeria, as it would demoralize the Boko Haram terrorists. However, the war against terrorism is far from over.

He also resonated with President Jonathan's statement that insurgency will end on October.
