Sports Siasia promises to build his Olympic team around Kelechi

Coach of Nigeria's under 23 team, Samson Siasia, has revealed that he will build his team around Kelechi Iheanacho.

Iheanacho was the shining light in Nigeria's triumph at the under 17 FIFA World Cup last year, powering the Golden Eaglets to victory at the United Arab Emirates.

And Siasia who is already preparing for the Rio 2016 Olympics, revealed that the bulk of his team will be built around the players who played at the under 17 World Cup last year.

“The team will certainty be built around most of the U-17 players that won the last World Cup especially somebody like Kelechi Iheancho. The truth is that the boy is good and has the heart of a great player, so all we need do is to encourage him to excel.

“If Raheem Sterling can play for the national team at 17 and has been playing well there, but they might as well have invited him to the U20 or U21’s but it’s what that young player can give.

“Look at the South African team now, most of their players are young players and that’s what we’re looking at trying to build a strong team with.”

“Also there will be a good representation of those playing their football here in Nigeria because those ones will be ready at all times to report for national duty but they must have to be quality players who can hold their own against any player from abroad.
