Dr Jabbi Kilgori, Chairman of the Poverty Reduction Committee in Sokoto State, says the Yabo Local Government in the state is planning to give jobs to 1,000 unemployed youths.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Sokoto on Sunda, the committee chairman said the gesture was sequel to a recent directive by Gov. Aliyu Wamakko.

“The state governor directed the 23 local governments in the state to employ 1,000 unemployed youths each,’’ he said, adding that the employment scheme was under the Subsidy Re-investment Programme (SURE-P) in the state.

“Consequently, the local government has set up a 10-man poverty reduction committee,’’ he said.

“The youths will be engaged in some projects aimed at improving the environment and keeping environmental problems at bay.

“They will be engaged in activities like routine environmental sanitation, landscaping, afforestation and other related projects.

``The youths will, therefore, be useful to themselves and the society. Through this, we will curb youths’ restiveness, rural-urban drift and other related social problems," he said.

The youths would be paid monthly allowances of N10,000 each.
