A soldier is feared dead while two others sustained injuries after a boat conveying soldiers in the convoy of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Rear Admiral John Jonah, (retd.), crashed into the mangroves.

The accident occurred along Ogbia-Nembe waterways on Sunday

According to sources, the boat driver allegedly lost control of the vessel, veered off the water and crashed into the mangroves at about 8am.

A source denies the death of a soldier but conceded that " the injuries of one of them were serious. I think he is dead. But if he survives, it will be by the grace of God".

The soldiers were attached to the Joint Task Force, Operation Pulo Shield.

The deputy governor was on his way to Nembe for a private visit when the accident occurred and efforts to confirm the incident from the Senior Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor on Media, Mr. Ebi Evinson, were unsuccessful as he neither answered calls to his telephone nor replied to a text message sent to him.

The Media Coordinator, JTF, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, however confirmed the accident.
