In conflicting news about the tensions present at the Horn of Africa, youths aligned with the rebel leader Riek Machar are said to be marching towards the strategic town of Bor in the conflict ridden nation of South Sudan. The government of South Sudan recently liberated the town from the rebel forces.

It has been denied that most of the youths had been persuaded to go home and had clashed with government forces, according to a spokesman for President Salva Kiir, as detailed by BBC Africa. They have stated that at least 1,000 people have died in December alone.

William Hague, the UK Foreign Minister has stated that he has contacted both Machar and Kiir “to enter negotiations immediately and without preconditions”, offering the support of the United Kingdom where diplomacy is concerned.
