Sports Spanish La Liga: Barcelona beat Rayo Vallecano to remain top, Atletico Madrid defeated by Valencia

Barcelona kept up their place at the top of the Spanish La Liga table after securing a 2-0 away victory at Rayo Vallecano.

Once again the partnership of Lionel Messi and Neymar wrecked havoc on the opposition as they got both goals that secured the win for coach Luis Enrique's men.

Rayo somehow were the architects of their own failings in the match, with two of their players shown a red card before half-time.

Messi executed the first goal, lobbing the goalkeeper to move to within just two goals of the Spanish league all-time goalscoring record.

Neymar on his part found the net after Munir found him in space with a pass that the Brazilian made no mistakes burying and it was all over for the home team.

Barcelona would be delighted seeing the defending champions,Atletico Madrid drop all points at Valencia.

Atletico had a bad start in the game, conceding three goals in the opening fifteen minutes as Valencia ensured a win to take all three points.

"We made errors that we don't normally make and they made the most of it to put themselves 3-0 up," said Diego Simeone,Atletico Madrid coach.

"But after that we played a good game and I'm proud of how my players worked and ran.

"We showed that we are a great team. If you have to lose, lose with dignity, with hard work, playing and running."
