An aide of the immediate past Governor of Ekiti, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on Friday denied that he left a debt of N84 billion and an empty treasury for the state.

Speaking with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, Fayemi’s Commissioner for Information, Mr Tayo Ekundayo, said the allegations were not true.

Governor Ayo Fayose had at his inauguration in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday alleged that his predecessor left an empty treasury and a debt of N84 billion.

Ekundayo urged the new administration to study the handover note it received before passing comments on the past administration.

"Fayose should study the handing over note carefully before making unnecessary noise about the debt profile of Ekiti. We heard him saying that the debt profile of Ekiti State now stands at N84billion.

"I want to say that it is nothing near that figure. We have noticed that tendency in the past but we have refused to join issues with him.

"It is too early for Fayose to be talking about us, he should understand that there is a difference between being a candidate of a party and executive of a state," he said.

Ekundayo said that over N14 billion had been paid out of the N25 billion. He also added that the Federal Government owed Ekiti N20 billion under the immediate past regime.

"I will advise him to settle down and see how he would improve on the legacies of Governor Fayemi's administration," he said.
