Sports Super Eagles: NFF fires Keshi, Amodu Shuaibu steps in as replacement

The Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) has fired Stephen Keshi as coach of the Super Eagles national team.

After an emergency meeting by the new executives of the NFF led by Amaju Pinnick late on Wednesday night, the board decided that they no longer want to continue with him as their coach.

Keshi, his assistants, Ike Shorounmu and Daniel Amokachi have been asked to proceed on any foreign course of their choice to be sponsored by the NFF.

Meanwhile Amodu Shuaibu has been drafted in by the NFF to take temporal charge of the Super Eagles for the remaining two qualifiers against Congo and South Africa.

The NFF are believed to be considering hiring a foreign coach on the long term, once they are sure Nigeria has qualified for the 2015 African Nations Cup tournament.

It was a matter of time before Keshi was sacked by the NFF, even the 3-1 victory over Sudan on Wednesday couldn't save him his job.

The new NFF board didn't trust him to steer the team forward, and the results in the first three matches of the Nations Cup qualifiers didn't help his cause.
