Sports Super Falcons Need Urgent Revival- Eucheria Uche

Former Super Falcons coach, Eucharia Uche, has lamented poor performance by the nation's women senior national team following their defeat to their Ivory Coast's counterparts at the just concluded All African Games in Brazzaville.

The coach Christopher Danjuma-led Falcons lost to Ivory Coast in the preliminaries before losing to them the second time in the same tournament in the 3rd place game, which the AWC winning coach described as embarrassing results.

The Falcons placed fourth at the Games in Brazzaville, Congo and failed to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil after losing their final qualifying match to Equatorial Guinea.

“This is the worst performance from the Falcons in recent times,” the former Nigeria captain said.

“No team has been able to beat them twice in the same tournament.

“For Ivory Coast to beat Nigeria 2-1 twice at the All Africa Games tells a lot about the current state of the team.

“We have not been having it nice on the world stage. But in Africa where we are a force to be reckoned with, we seem to be going down and this is a thing to worry about.”

According to the former Ufuoma Babes captain, the Falcons need the same level of attention as the Super Eagles to prevent them from becoming a weak team on the continent.

She said, “The Falcons are just like the Super Eagles. When they do well, fans are happy and they have lived up to the expectations of the fans as in times past.

“Things are fast changing for the team and an urgent restructuring of the team as was done to the Eagles is needed to get them back to their place on the continent.

“If nothing is done now, the team will continue to fall until it gets to the level where the lowest team in Africa will beat them and there will be nothing to do.” Punch
