Taekwondo Federation looking at adding new faces – Chukwumerije

The Nigerian Taekwondo Federation(NTF) is working on plans to be able to churn out athletes,who will successfully take over from the older ones.
Bronze medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics,Chika Chukwumerije,said that the Taekwondo Federation wants to infuse new talents to build on sustainability.
Chukwumerije was worried that only two athletes have been active in the sport,for over ten years now,despite 25 representing Nigeria at the 2003 All African Games in Abuja.
“The federation has taken a look around and noticed that we have amazing talents but now we want to make sure that we get the structure right where others can take over because we need more medals,” Chukwumerije told Brila FM.
“It’s gotten to a stage where we need a fresh group, a new national team that can rival the team of 10 years ago and also better their achievement,” he added.
Chukwumerije and his teammate,Issa Mohammed have been the only active athletes for Nigeria in Taekwondo for the past ten years.
