Samsung Electronics is apparently not resting on its oars despite being the world’s best-selling maker of smartphones, as it is planning to launch a new set of handsets with curved displays.

According to BBC news, these new displays will have plastic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels. This was revealed at a Galaxy Note 3 Launch event in Seoul.

DJ Lee. Head of strategic marketing for Samsung Mobile said, “We plan to introduce a smartphone with a curved display in South Korea in October.”

Incidentally, Samsung already has curved-screen TVs in the market.

Samsung had earlier (in January) shown a prototype phone with bendy and extendable screens, but experts still express their doubts as to the feasibility for mass producing such screens in large quantities and at minimal cost.

Ben Wood, an analyst at CCS insight says it is a great idea for Samsung to produce the bendy screens, since it would help differentiate the company from the current almost-homogeneous mix of competitors with their flat-screen, rectangular display smartphones.
