At last, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, has entered appearance in the suit filed by some lawmakers seeking to stop their political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the leadership of the National Assembly from declaring their seats vacant by virtue of their defection to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
Meanwhile, the court has ordered parties in the case to file all relevant documents relating to the suit and adjourned further proceedings to February 18, 2014 at the instance of counsel to Tambuwal, Alex Marama, who applied for time to file his response to the suit.
At the last adjourned date, some lawyers including the plaintiff’s counsel expressed their inability to effect service on the speaker of the House of Representatives, who was listed as the 3rd defendant in the suit.
In his ruling, Justice Ahmed Mohammed ordered parties, in the suit to hand all processes (court documents) yet to be served on the 3rd defendant (Tambuwal), to the court’s bailiff, who would serve him the notice between now and Friday.
