Metro The Russian Connection: Third Plane Caught in Kano 'Loaded with Weapons'

The Russian airplane caught by the Nigerian authorities yesterday is the third one nabbed in Kano state since 2009, Premium Times says.

The plane was carrying a 'large cache of AK47s and bullet proof vests and other items,' according to the News Agency of Nigeria NAN.

General communications manager of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Yakubu Datti, has said that the plane was really bound fof N'djamena, the Chadian capital.

“The plane had a technical problem and the pilot sought (for) permission to land at the airport’’, he said.

Although the plane was released, there is still mounting dread and suspicion over this incident.

I wont be surprised if those weapons are delivered in Chad and later handed to Boko Haram.

Such aircraft in our airspace is a wake up call for security personnel across the country.
